How could they????

I was planning to blog about my visit to the USS Intrepid – the aircraft carrier turned into to a museum in the Hudson River.

To get myself in the right frame of mind, I decided to watch the movie Top Gun on television.

Cup of tea in hand, I settled onto the couch. But my pleasure was short lived…… they cut the volleyball scene!!!

Seriously? The volleyball scene!

The one with Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer and a selection of young and handsome hot shot pilots playing beach volleyball – mostly with their shirts off.

How could they?????

I know the film is about honour and finding your own style of courage and doing the right thing.

It’s also about falling in love. And it is also most definitely about handsome young men with their shirts off!

Val Kilmer - The Ice Man is pretty hot.

Tony Scott may have directed a man’s movie – but it’s women who watch this film – at least in my house it is. I was so outraged I turned it off. I didn’t want to discover they’d also cut the love scene. That would have been too much to take.

I’m heartbroken now – and may have to find a DVD shop, buy an uncut version of the film and just watch the volleyball scene.

I know some films need to be toned down for television – bu that volleyball scene is totally harmless – and mild compared to some of the other stjuff on the box.  At the moment I’m watching Game of Thrones, the TV series based on George R R Martin’s fabulous book. It’s a great series – but there some horribly violent scene and some graphic sex scenes.

If that’s allowed – why can’t I have my volleyball scene?

I’m almost afraid now to try the TV showings of some of my other favourite films.

Is Daniel Craig going to be wearing a shirt when he comes out of the water in Casino Royale?

How can Robert Pattinson reveal his true vampire nature if he can’t take his shirt off on television?

And what about Hugh Jackman – are we never to see those abs again?

Come on girls – it’s time we stood up and exercised our right to have our heroes take their shorts off oops – sorry – that should have read shirts off on television.

(Let’s face it – you’d rather see these photos that pictures of an aircraft carrier – right?)
