Anna Prentiss, the town vet, remains emotionally distant from everyone. Badly scarred in an accident, she believes she will never be loved.<\/p>\n

Firefighter Justin Turner is building a volunteer fire service to protect the town during the bushfire season. But Justin and his identical twin brother, Ben, face an unexpected reunion when their estranged mother crashes back into their orbit.<\/p>\n

Justin doesn’t see Anna’s scars – only her beauty and strength, but comes to understand how easy it is to be unintentionally cruel – a lesson he should apply to his own past with his mother.<\/p>\n

Fate forces Anna and Justin to confront their fears. But as a raging bushfire threatens Wagtail Ridge, will their newfound hope be reduced to ash before they can take the chance?<\/p>\n

Just before starting this book, I had a skin cancer removed from my forehead. It was not too serious, and I am fine, but the resulting scar did bother me. It got me thinking about how we react to things like that \u2013 when we see them, and more importantly when we experience them. That was where Anna\u2019s story began.<\/p>\n

As for Justin\u2026 Growing up where I did, and then during my career as a journalist, I saw a lot of bushfires. They are truly terrifying. The volunteers who fight them have my admiration and my gratitude. I can\u2019t think of a better man to be the hero of a novel.<\/p>\n

Returning to Wagtail Ridge to write Anna and Justin\u2019s story was a pleasure \u2013 although the book did have me in tears more than once. I hope you shed a tear too \u2013 but in the best possible way.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
