I decided that couldn&#8217;t be right, but when I stopped long enough to think about it\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>Matt \u2013 the hero of The Farmer needs A Wife owns a horse stud.<\/p>\n<p>In The Bachelor and Spinster Ball, our hero Nick is a stockman, which is the Australian version of a cowboy.<\/p>\n<p>Girl racers, I thought, is a book about a car race\u2026 but our heroine Alex grew up on a cattle property where her childhood sweetheart helped her train a thoroughbred colt.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Not only does my newest book have a few scenes set at an outback race meeting \u2013 the next one is going to involve a plan to rescue a herd of wild horses.<\/p>\n<p>I begin to see a pattern. Even looking back at my first attempts to write (unpublished and for good reason), there do seem to be horses involved in them all\u2026 even if it&#8217;s as simple as our hero riding one in a military parade.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2373\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2373\" style=\"width: 495px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/janetgover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Kentucky-Bluegrass-country.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2373 \" title=\"Kentucky Bluegrass country\" src=\"http:\/\/janetgover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Kentucky-Bluegrass-country.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"495\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/janetgover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Kentucky-Bluegrass-country.jpg 550w, https:\/\/janetgover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Kentucky-Bluegrass-country-300x153.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 495px) 100vw, 495px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2373\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kentucky Bluegrass country - exactly how I always imagined it would be.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Just before Christmas I was in Kentucky, and drove to Lexington to visit &#8211; \u00a0you guessed it \u2013 Kentucky Horse Park. It&#8217;s a fabulous place, dedicated to all things equine. I made some new four footed friends \u2026 and had a lovely day walking across the famous Kentucky Bluegrass fields.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2378\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2378\" style=\"width: 320px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/janetgover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Pink_Panther2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2378 \" title=\"Pink_Panther2\" src=\"http:\/\/janetgover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Pink_Panther2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/janetgover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Pink_Panther2.png 400w, https:\/\/janetgover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Pink_Panther2-300x212.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2378\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The grass where I learned to ride was more brown than blue<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This beautiful horse country is very different from the rough and tumble outback where I learned to ride, but some things are the same.<\/p>\n<p>As a teenager, the boys I fell in love with (and there were quite a few) were the ones who could ride faster and harder than I could.
