Hello from London\u2026\u00a0<\/p>\n

Most of the terrible things they say about the weather here are true – especially this time of the year… but that doesn’t matter. It’s great to be home.<\/p>\n

One of the first things I have done since arriving \u2013 and one of the best \u2013 is to attend the book launch for Up Close \u2013 the first novel by my good friend Henriette Gyland.<\/p>\n

Book launches are always such fun.<\/p>\n

There was wine, and smoked salmon; good friends and a lot of talk about books.<\/p>\n

Looking around \u2013 I realised that there were a few of us there who shared a story. We all met as unpublished writers – members of the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s New Writers Scheme.<\/p>\n

We have been friends now for so long, it’s hard to remember a time before we met.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

During those years, we learned our trade. Now we all have books on the shelves\u2026 we are still learning our trade of course. That never stops.<\/p>\n

Along the way we have shared a lot of good news and a few setbacks\u2026 but the important part was always the sharing.<\/p>\n

More authors - more good friends. With Liz Fenwick and Liz Harris. What is the plural of Liz? Lizes?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I am really looking forward to reading Up Close. I am reading two other books right now \u2013 so I have just taken a quick glance at the first few pages \u2013 it looks terrific. I love romantic suspense, and there’s far too little of it being published right now.<\/p>\n

A fabulous, haunting cover - I see some late night reading in my immediate future.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I’m off to the Netherlands tomorrow \u2013 that\u2019s a few hours of travel on planes and trains and automobiles. I am saving Henriette’s book for that journey.<\/p>\n

The launch has reminded me of something really important\u2026<\/p>\n

To anyone who is working towards a dream \u2013 whatever that dream is \u2013 don’t give up.<\/p>\n

Good friends will always make the journey a little easier.<\/p>\n

It might take a lot of hard work to achieve the dream \u2013 but dreams are worth it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
