It's kinda pretty - for a phone<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I have finally bid farewell to my much loved old phone. It made telephone calls , took photos and sent messages \u2013 but even that was a bit of an effort.<\/p>\n

So now I have a smart phone\u2026 and am worried that it might just be smarter than me\u2026<\/p>\n

My excuse was that I needed it for work \u2013 but that’s not really true. It’s all about books<\/p>\n

I have a Kindle \u2013 which I love. Webmaster John has a Nook reader of which he is equally fond.<\/p>\n

We buy books in both formats, which occasionally results in a lending crisis – “But I want to read X and it’s on your Nook!”<\/p>\n

Now, my smart phone has both Kindle and Nook apps on it \u2013 which means I can read anything. Note that I do not expect this to result in any less borrowing of John’s Nook – it has some really cool games as well.<\/p>\n

Look at all those books<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

This swish new phone has it’s drawback – I can’t escape work e-mails.\u00a0 It keeps beeping to draw me back to Twitter and Facebook (aaargghhh)<\/p>\n

But – the most important thing is that I am now NEVER without a book.<\/p>\n

You know how sometimes you get trapped somewhere \u2013 an elevator. The queue at Sainsbury’s. On a train. And you realise with horror that you don’t have anything to read.<\/p>\n

Never again!<\/p>\n

My phone is always with me (yes \u2013 that bit is because of work) and now I have several books loaded onto it.\u00a0 OK \u2013 the pages are pretty small, but the important thing is that I will never again find myself on a plane delayed for an hour, with nothing to read \u2013 having finished the previous book while waiting (it was not a pretty sight!)<\/p>\n

This will never be my primary reading device. But if you have ever been around me when I have nothing to read – you will understand the importance to world peace of this breakthrough.<\/p>\n

I love technology.<\/p>\n
