Conversations with good friends – it may be months between meetings, but it’s as if we last met only a few days ago.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

Writing can be a lonely job. <\/span><\/p>\n

We spend most of our time chained to a computer, or a notebook, talking to people who exist only in our own heads.<\/span><\/p>\n

It has been said that the only person who really understands a writer is another writer. <\/span><\/p>\n

That may or may not be true, but there\u2019s no doubt that friendships between writers are very important \u2013 and rather special.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yesterday the London Chapter of the Romantic Novelists association held its Christmas lunch\u2026 and I was reminded so forcefully why my writer friends are so important to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"Always<\/a>
Always happy to see each other – and to share the highs and lows of this crazy job we all love.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"No-one<\/a>
No-one is too embarrassed to wear a party hat or play a party game<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"We<\/a>
We laugh with each other – never at each other.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"And<\/a>
We all get the same Jane Austen inspired jokes.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"And<\/a>
And all the gaily wrapped presents waiting to be delivered are book-shaped.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It may be a tad early, but I\u2019m sending seasons greetings to writers everywhere \u2013 to my friends, acquaintances and all those I have never met. Love books. Love writing. Love writers.<\/p>\n
