The Heart of Denver Romance Writers logo – can you see the bear?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I found out this week that I am a finalist in the Aspen Gold Readers\u2019 Choice Awards, run by the Heart of Denver Romance Writers.<\/p>\n

I am thrilled for two reasons.<\/p>\n

First, it really is an honour to be included on a shortlist that includes so many fine writers<\/p>\n

And secondly, because I have been to Denver- where I fell in love with a big blue bear.<\/p>\n

This is the bear in question.<\/p>\n

\"He<\/a>
He is peering in through the glass wall of the Convention Centre<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

He\u2019s actually called \u2018I See What You Mean\u2019 \u2013 but everyone calls him the big blue bear. Big because he\u2019s 40 ft high. And blue \u2013 for obvious reasons.<\/p>\n

He has his nose and paws up against the glass at about the third storey of the building and is peering inside.<\/p>\n

The work of artist Lawrence Argent, he is, quite simply, wonderful and remains my enduring image of the city.<\/p>\n

He’s so big – I wasn’t even able to hug his leg.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Unfortunately, I won\u2019t be able to visit Denver for the awards ceremony. I\u2019ll be in the Cotswolds, leading a writing retreat.<\/p>\n

Keep your fingers crossed for me \u2013 and as for the bear \u2013 I did promise him I would return. Maybe I can keep that promise another year.<\/p>\n
