A visit to the zoo

We went to the Bronx Zoo this weekend. There was still some snow on the ground – and it was pretty cold. It started snowing again soon after we arrived and I started to wonder if this was perhaps not the best day for a visit to the zoo.

Then we spotted the lions.

The cubs were playing in the snow.

Dad wasn’t impressed.

The cubs didn’t care about grumpy Dad or the snow. They were out for whatever fun they could find.

Encouraged – we went looking for the tiger cubs.  We felt certain they’d like the snow. The tigers were tucked up warm inside their houses. There was a tree in their enclosure that was about to fall, and with the wind, it wasn’t safe for them.

We were disappointed – but only until we reached the bear enclosure.

They like sticks too.

And this was the very best-est stick ever..  in the history of the world.

We met a woman who was taking photographs of the animals.

She knew them all by name.

She told us what they were doing when she visited them last week.

Suddenly I didn’t feel bad about being the only adults at the Zoo who weren’t there for their children.

It snowed some more today – but I’ve got a new friend who I’m certain is not at all sad to see the snow.
