Writing in a circle

Valentine's Day - an appropriate choice for a romantic round robin.
Valentine’s Day – an appropriate choice for a romantic round robin.

I did something last week I’ve never done before (usually a good thing).

I took part in a Valentine’s Day writing collaboration – with some of my lovely Choc Lit friends.

The idea was to do a ‘round robin’ story – with each of us writing a part of the story…

For me, at least, writing is a very solitary thing. I can’t even work when my husband is home  – not even if he’s at the other end of the house.  So the idea of sharing a story intrigued me.

The thing about writers – if you gave to same idea to five writers – they would come up with five totally different stories. That’s what makes reading and writing such fun.

The writers joining me in this are among my favourites – I read their books and really enjoy them, so it’s particularly exciting to be sharing with such talented writers.

I was to start the ball rolling – so I had to come up with an idea that suited Valentine’s Day – and also left the way open for the others to take the characters in whatever direction they wanted to go.

I wrote the first part of the story and sent it off – and now I’m waiting to see where to goes. You see – I don’t know yet. I haven’t seen the rest of the story. And I won’t see it until everyone else does… that’s going to be exciting.

I’m curious – but not worried. I know I left my characters in some very capable hands.

Like me, you’ll be able to read the story on these book blogs – leading up to Valentine’s Day.

It all starts at Reading in the Sunshine on Monday (with my bit). all the details are on this poster provided by the lovely people at Choc Lit.

Isn't it a pretty... do check out the blogs. They are all great book blogs.
