I’m not afraid of heights – honestly I’m not. I have a healthy respect for things I might fall off – chairs, ladders, horses… But heights… I’m fine… ish.
I’m in Toronto this week – and the city has this tower….
It’s the world’s tallest tower.
It’s very photogenic.
There are two observation desks – the first is the flying saucer bit about two thirds of the way up. The second is that tiny little white bump – its thirty stories above the first one!
That bump used to be the highest man made observation point in the world.. it’s only the second highest now.
Well – I had to, didn’t I?
O.M.G. They don’t tell you when you buy the ticket that the elevator has a glass roof.
And glass sides.
And a glass FLOOR!!!!!
I shot up 113 stories in 58 seconds… all the time watching the ground drop away beneath me. Eeek!
The view from the observation deck is amazing! You can choose to stay safely inside, behind the glass – or walk out onto an open observation deck – which is enclosed with a strong looking mesh to stop anyone doing anything foolish.

The next stop – for the brave or foolhardy is the sky pod – a mere 1,465 ft above the ground. That’s 147 stories. Out there – it’s all glass and even I found myself staying very close to the comfort of the solid centre core.
The worst was yet to come…
Safely back down to the lower observation point, I discovered some sadist has installed a glass floor. Yes – GLASS FLOOR! You can stand on it and look between your feet all the way down to the ground.

Now – I believe in physics. I have great faith in engineers. They say the glass floor is safe – and I believe them. I really do… but with all those children running and jumping on it , I wasn’t taking any chances. (Nervous? Me? No way!)
There’s a revolving restaurant at the observation level – guess were I’m going for dinner tonight…
And – in case you are wondering – the world’s tallest building is now in Dubai. Next time I’m over that way…

I am not afraid of heights either, Janet. Clicking on your blog I felt rather blasé. But when I look at the pic you took, through the glass floor, I admit I had second thoughts. Not so sure now that I’d be unmoved by the experience.

I’m glad you said that Gilli – I was feeling a bit shamefaced at being reluctant to walk on the glass.
I did in the end – but was not at all comfortable!

I’m pretty sure I would wet myself. And not in a good way.
What was really embarassing was how easily the little kids danced all over it – while I tentatively poked out a toe..
So do all the women wear trousers? 🙂
It’s minus several degrees F here at the moment – everyone is wearing trousers anyway…..
Wow – what a view! And you can see everything perfectly well without the need to step onto the actually glass, can’t you? : )
Yep – for which many us us were very glad.
